Description

Serviceberry grows in USDA hardiness zone 4โ€“7. It can be found in the eastern United States from Maine to Georgia, west to Mississippi and in the eastern parts of Tennessee.

Serviceberry is an understory tree, often found growing in clumps in swamps, lowlands, and thickets. In Eastern MA, it may be found growing in association with other swampland plants such as: black tupelo, speckled alder, poplar, hazel shrubs, white oak, red cedar, choke cherry, and bayberry. It also does well in drylands.

It’s one of the first trees to bloom in spring so it provides an early source of nectar.
