This is one of several New England native hedgerows inspired by Heather McCargo of the Wild Seed Project in Maine. Plant this hedgerow along a contour to slow spring runoff down a mucky hill or at the edge of your dry lawn that abuts year-long or seasonal dampness.

Every kit comes with a tree tag for each tree and a printable notebook to bring your plans into the next generation or home owner. The notebook contains room for your planting map, notes about maintenance youโve carried out and citizen science. Additionally, it includes information on: site choice and preparation; a planting guide; protection recommendations; water, mulch and pruning recommendations and notes; 1st year and longer-term management tips, and a list of trees that came with your kit including details on fruit/nut bearing, growth patterns and, if applicable, hedge management guidelines.
Heather McCargoย is the founder and executive director ofย Wild Seed Project, a Maine based 501(c)3 nonprofit that works to increase the use of seed grown native plants in all landscape settings. Wild Seed Project publishes an annual magazineย Wild Seed, sells seeds of locally grown wild type native plants, and educate the public so that a wide range of people can participate in increasing native plant populations.
