This hedgerow kit is perfect for locations needing a dense weaving of 2-6′ growth as all of the shrubs in this selection (another curated by Heather McCargo of the Wild Seed Project in Maine) consists of shrubs that form sturdy stands by underground rhizome growth. If you wish to keep this wild hedgerow tamed, make sure to include its boundaries in your mowing round to knock back any lateral growth that pops above-ground. This may be further triggered by any pruning activity.

Every kit comes with a tree tag for each tree and a notebook to bring your plans into the next generation or home owner. The notebook contains room for your planting map, notes about maintenance you’ve carried out and citizen science. Additionally, it includes information on: site choice and preparation; a planting guide; protection recommendations; water, mulch and pruning recommendations and notes; 1st year and longer-term management tips, and a list of trees that came with your kit including details on fruit/nut bearing, growth patterns and, if applicable, hedge management guidelines.
Heather McCargo is the founder and executive director of Wild Seed Project, a Maine based 501(c)3 nonprofit that works to increase the use of seed grown native plants in all landscape settings. Wild Seed Project publishes an annual magazine Wild Seed, sells seeds of locally grown wild type native plants, and educate the public so that a wide range of people can participate in increasing native plant populations.
