Native Tall Hedgerow Kit

Description

Inspired by Heather McCargo ofย  the Wild Seed Project in Maine, this set of native plants works well where there is a bit more space available for a hedgerow. Birch and Pine grow tall and should be added only if there is no concern of housing or other valuables being in the fall zone.

Beach plum Prunus maritima
Sassafras Sassafras albidum
Scrub oak Quercus ilicifolia
Dwarf chinkapin Quercus prinoides
Pitch pine Pinus rigida
Gray birch Betula populifolia
Eastern red cedar Juniper virginiana
Sumac Rhus spp.

Every kit comes with a tree tag for each tree and a printable notebook to bring your plans into the next generation or home owner. The notebook contains room for your planting map, notes about maintenance youโ€™ve carried out and citizen science. Additionally, it includes information on: site choice and preparation; a planting guide; protection recommendations; water, mulch and pruning recommendations and notes; 1st year and longer-term management tips, and a list of trees that came with your kit including details on fruit/nut bearing, growth patterns and, if applicable, hedge management guidelines.

Heather McCargoย is the founder and executive director ofย Wild Seed Project, a Maine based 501(c)3 nonprofit that works to increase the use of seed grown native plants in all landscape settings.
